Seeds of Unknown Form
Unless otherwise noted, Nue will have one of these equipped to herself at all times in pithoi. They disguise her form by causing her to appear as whatever the viewer expects to see. So, for example, if someone sees her browsing a particular section in the library, they'll probably construct an image from what they expect a person standing inside the library to look like, based on the setting, their experiences, and her behavior. Her appearance may shift and change if the viewer receives more information that alters their perception, and if examined closely her form tends to look somewhat unstable and may flicker, so telling she is under an illusion isn't impossible. Of course, knowing it's an illusion doesn't necessarily mean you can see through it...

If someone looks at her without a preconceived notion of what she is, they'll simply see a ball of light or something similarly "blank." Things attached to her or that she is holding will also be affected. For example, your character might envision her wings as extra arms if they become aware of their existence, or they might not realized that the unseen force picking up objects around her is attached to her at all and see ghostly, disembodied hands instead. Similarly, she could use misinformation to trick someone into seeing a weapon she's holding as something else entirely. Photographs and recordings appear to be unaffected by the illusion in canon.

If your character has an ability you think would allow them to see through this, tell me here and we can discuss and/or make plans! Similarly, if you'd rather not deal with Nue attaching these Seeds to other people or things for the purpose of mischief, let me know and I'll keep her antics out of threads with your characters.


Glossary
Nue might use some terms that your character would be aware of, especially if they're Japanese, but I understand if you aren't! So...

• youkai- Youkai are supernatural creatures, and a very common component of Japanese folklore. This term encompasses a wide variety of monsters.
  
• nue- The nue is a kind of youkai, and both Nue's species and her name. The most common description of it is a chimera-like creature with the head of a monkey, the body of a raccoon dog, the body of a tiger, and a snake for a tail.
  
• anesan- "Anesan" is a variant of "elder sister," but this version usually means a female superior who is not one's real sister, such as a female gang boss.
  
• danmaku- Though within Touhou Project canon danmaku is used to refer to a literal ability that characters have, it's also a genre of shoot-'em-up games. If this is something you think your character would know of, I'm fine with them commenting on it!
